rose gold disney loungefly in front of cinderella castle - what to pack in your disney park bag

Last Updated: August 2024

Choosing the Right Disney Park Bag

First things first: what bag to take to Disney World? It’s a decision that can make or break your day. You want something that’s comfortable, not too bulky, and, of course, stylish enough for all those photo ops.

A backpack is usually the go-to for most Disney-goers. It keeps your hands free, distributes weight evenly, and can hold all your essentials without weighing you down. Disney Loungefly backpacks are a great, smaller option and can really make for a fun outfit and great photo ops.

If you’re aiming for something lighter, a crossbody bag is a great option. It’s compact but can still fit your basics. Bonus points if it has a few compartments to keep things organized. And for those who want to channel their inner minimalist, a belt bag or fanny pack might do the trick. Just remember, comfort is key. You’ll be carrying this bag around for hours, so make sure it feels good on your shoulders or waist.

If you have little ones in a stroller, you have a bit more flexibility as far as the size goes since you can keep the bag in the stroller compartment. As a reminder, strollers cannot exceed 31 inches in width and 52 inches in length. Stroller wagons are not allowed.

If you need a locker, they are located towards the front of each park to rent for the day. Just keep in mind that this may not always be convenient to get back to during the day. There are three different size lockers ranging in price from $10 to $15 for the day.

Everyone who enters the theme park will need to go through a security screening and there will be a bag check. There is usually a separate (and shorter) line for guests without bags.

Disney Park Bag Essentials

Now, let’s get down to business. What should you actually pack in your Disney park bag? Here’s a list of essentials that will keep you comfortable, prepared, and ready for anything the day throws your way.

I am by no means a ‘minimalist.’ Sure, you could have a great day at the parks without any of these things. This is totally up to you and your travel party’s preferences so feel free to take what works for you.

  • MagicBand or Key to the World Card: Your MagicBand or Key to the World Card is like your golden ticket. It holds your park tickets, room key, and can even be used for purchases. Don’t leave home without it!
  • Photo ID: You’ll need this for checking into your hotel, purchasing alcohol, or verifying park tickets. Keep it in a safe spot in your bag.
  • Cash, Debit/Credit Card, or Gift Cards: If you’re not planning to charge purchases to your Disney resort, you’ll need to have some form of payment with you. Disney gift cards can also be a lifesaver for budgeting your spending. A slim, travel wallet is a great option to hold these items.
  • Smartphone with the My Disney Experience App downloaded: Your smartphone is your lifeline at Disney. The My Disney Experience App lets you check wait times, manage reservations, and even order food. Don’t forget to download it before you go!
  • FuelRod or other Portable Battery Pack and Compatible USB Cord: With all the photos, videos, and app usage, your phone battery will drain pretty quickly. A portable battery pack will keep you charged up all day. FuelRods are great because you can purchase these ahead of time on Amazon and swap out your used charger for a new one that’s fully charged at kiosks throughout the parks and resorts – for free!
  • Reusable Silicone Bags or Ziplock Bags: These are great for keeping snacks fresh, storing wet clothes, or protecting electronics from water rides. Reusable bags are a more eco-friendly option, but ziplock bags work in a pinch too.
  • Pair of Minnie Ears: No Disney outfit is complete without a pair of Minnie ears. They’re the perfect accessory for all those castle selfies and character photos.
  • Sunglasses: The Florida sun is no joke, and you’ll want to protect your eyes from those rays with a pair of sunglasses.
  • Hair Elastic or Clip and a Small Brush: Between the heat, humidity, and thrill rides, your hair is bound to need some TLC. A hair elastic or clip and a small brush will help keep your hair looking fab all day.
  • Liquid I.V. Hydration Packets: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in the Florida heat. Toss a few Liquid I.V. Hydration Packets in your bag for an extra boost. Bonus: Save with my code DEVINEFAIRYTALE!
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Speaking of hydration, a reusable water bottle is a must. You can refill it at water fountains throughout the parks, saving you money and reducing plastic waste.
  • Snacks: Bringing your own snacks can save time and money. Think granola bars, fruit snacks, or something else quick and easy to snack on. It’ll tide you over between those Mickey-shaped treats.
  • Handheld Fan: A handheld fan can be a lifesaver on hot days. Whether you’re waiting in line or walking from ride to ride, a little breeze makes all the difference.
  • Hand Sanitizer: Disney is pretty clean, but with all the surfaces you’ll touch, it’s smart to have hand sanitizer at the ready.
  • Antibacterial Wipes: Perfect for cleaning hands, surfaces, or any unexpected messes.
  • Sunscreen: Reapply, reapply, reapply! You’ll be outside most of the day, so keep that sunscreen handy and don’t forget to reapply every couple of hours.
  • Lip Balm: The sun and wind can be harsh on your lips, so keep them moisturized with a good lip balm. Bonus points if it has SPF!
  • Gum or Mints: Fun fact: Disney doesn’t sell gum in the parks, so if you’re a gum chewer, make sure to bring your own. Mints are a great alternative too.
  • Poncho or Rain Jacket: Florida weather is unpredictable, and afternoon showers are common. A lightweight poncho or rain jacket will keep you dry without taking up too much space in your bag.

Other Ideas

  • Collapsible Cup
  • Collapsible Container
  • Reusable Straws
  • Quick Dry Towel
  • Cooling Towel
  • Small First Aid Kit
  • Blister Bandages or Moleskin

Disney Park Bag Essentials for Families

If you’re traveling with little ones, your Disney packing list might look a bit different. Here are some additional items to consider:

  • Diapers and Wipes: If you’ve got a little one in diapers, make sure to pack enough for the day plus a few extras. You never know when a diaper emergency might strike.
  • Small Toys and Activities: Something for kids to play with that will keep them occupied while waiting in lines will be helpful.
  • Bubbles or Glow Sticks: If you think your kids will see the carts with bubble wands and glow toys and want them, it might be smart to save some money and bring your own.
  • Change of Clothes: If they get wet or make a mess, having a backup outfit might be a good idea.
  • Stroller Accessories: If you’re bringing or renting a stroller, consider packing a stroller fan, a rain cover, and a stroller organizer to keep your essentials within easy reach.

What Not to Bring to Disney

Just as important as knowing what to bring to Disney is knowing what to leave at home. Here are a few items that are not allowed and are better left behind:

  • Alcohol, Drugs, Weapons. etc.
  • Glass Containers (except for baby food jars)
  • Large Coolers
  • Loose or Dry Ice
  • Horns, Whistles, Other Noise Makers
  • Drones
  • Remote Control Toys, Skateboards, Skates, Shoes with Built-In Wheels
  • Folding Chairs
  • Selfie Sticks
  • Tripod or Monopod that does not fit in a standard backpack or extends over 6 feet
  • Flags or Banners
  • Anything you can pull behind you such as a cooler, wagon, etc.

Free Disney Park Bag Checklist

If you’re like me and love a good checklist, then you’re in luck! I’ve put together a handy Disney park bag checklist that you can download for free. This checklist includes all the Disney park bag essentials we just covered, plus a few extra tips to make sure you’re 100% prepared for your magical day.

Just enter your email below, and I’ll send the checklist straight to your inbox. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a Disney pro, this checklist will help you stay organized and ensure you don’t forget a thing.

Keeping Your Disney Park Bag Organized

Now that you’ve got your Disney park bag essentials sorted, the last thing you want is to have to dig through your bag every time you need something. Use small pouches or ziplock bags to keep things organized. One for snacks, one for tech, one for first-aid, and so on. This way, you can find what you need without rummaging around or spilling everything on the ground while you’re in line.

Another little tip? Leave a bit of space in your bag for souvenirs. You never know when a plush Mickey or a pair of sparkly Minnie ears will call your name, and it’s nice to have a place to stash them without carrying an extra bag.

There you have it—a complete guide on what to pack in your Disney park bag. With these essentials, you’ll be ready for anything Disney throws your way, from surprise rain showers to snack attacks. Remember, a well-packed bag is your best friend on a Disney day, keeping you comfortable, prepared, and free to enjoy the magic without a worry in the world.
