It’s charming, the music is fantastic, and it ends with a 50 foot drop that will get you wet. Where you sit makes a real difference here. The front row takes the biggest hit, the middle is a toss-up, and the back stays the driest. If you love the thrill of a good soak, ride up front. If you’d rather stay comfortable, ask to sit toward the back.

Pirates of the Caribbean
This swashbuckling boat ride through Adventureland sends you drifting past treasure caves, rowdy pirates, and one small drop early on. Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion is one of the most popular water rides in EPCOT, and for good reason. Most of the time you’ll stay dry, but every so often one side of the boat catches a splash, so glance at your seat before you settle in.

Tucked into the Mexico pavilion, this cheerful boat ride follows Donald Duck and his Three Caballeros pals through the colors, music, and landmarks of Mexico. Living with the Land in The Land pavilion is a slow, peaceful boat tour through greenhouses and growing systems that supply real food to EPCOT restaurants. Animal Kingdom is home to both extremes: the ride most likely to soak you at Disney World and one of the most peaceful boat rides in all four parks. Here’s what to know before you hop on either.
Kali River Rapids
Kali River Rapids in the Asia section is the wettest water ride at Disney World, full stop. You’ll load into a big circular raft that spins as it tumbles through rapids, past a waterfall, and down a drop, and because the raft turns freely, there’s no truly dry seat. Whoever’s side hits the water first at the bottom of the drop gets it worst, and it’s completely luck of the draw. If you want to walk away dry, this is the ride to wear a poncho on, and there are free lockers right across from the entrance for your phone and shoes.

Na’vi River Journey
Na’vi River Journey is the calm counterpart to Kali, a slow and beautiful float through the glowing world of Pandora. You’ll drift past bioluminescent plants and wildlife before meeting the stunning Shaman of Songs animatronic, which is one of the most impressive Disney has ever built. It’s peaceful, it’s short, and you’ll stay completely dry.

Water-Themed Disney World Experiences That Aren’t Boat Rides
Not every attraction with water in the story is a water ride. These three are still fun to know about if you are planning a day with kids or looking for a break from the heat.
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is an interactive walking trail in EPCOT, not a ride. You’ll wander a lush, interactive landscape where water responds to you as you move, with sweet nods to the film tucked throughout. You can choose how much you interact with the water, so this is the one on this list where you might actually get wet.
The Seas with Nemo & Friends is a dry clamshell ride through an underwater story in EPCOT. The aquarium at the end is part of the reason I like recommending it to families. There is a fun (and free) scavenger hunt for little ones, plus it’s indoors!
Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid in Magic Kingdom takes you through Ariel’s story in a dry ride vehicle. It feels like a trip beneath the sea, but you will not be splashed.
Do You Need a Poncho for Disney World Water Rides?
For most of the Disney World water rides, the answer is no. Rides like Pirates, Frozen Ever After, and Small World might catch you with a stray splash, but a poncho would be overkill and honestly a little silly to sit through in the Florida heat. The two rides where a poncho earns its place are Kali River Rapids and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and even then it comes down to how you feel about getting wet.
On a hot summer day, a soak on Kali can feel amazing and you’ll dry off fast walking around after. But if you’re visiting in the cooler months, riding at night, or heading straight into an air-conditioned show afterward, that wet-clothes chill sticks around and isn’t fun. Those are the times a poncho really pays off. A cheap disposable poncho takes up almost no room in your bag, and tossing a couple in with your Disney park bag essentials means you’re covered for surprise rain too.
How to Stay Dry on Disney World Water Rides
If you want to enjoy the Disney World water rides without walking around soggy all afternoon, a few small choices make a big difference. Seat placement is the biggest one. On Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the back rows stay noticeably drier than the front. On any ride with a dip, aim for the back and you’ll dodge most of the spray. Kali is the exception, since the spinning raft means no seat is safe, and that’s exactly why the poncho is worth it there.
Beyond where you sit, dress for it. Quick-dry clothing and sandals or water-friendly shoes will save you from that squishy-sneaker feeling for the rest of the day. Keep your phone and anything else you can’t replace in a zip-top bag or a locker, especially before Kali River Rapids.
