If you have been dreaming about stepping into Super Nintendo World or feeling the chills of Dark Universe, you are not the only one. Universal Orlando’s newest theme park is already topping must-do lists for families, and once you spend a day there, it is easy to see why. There are a few Epic Universe tips that genuinely make or break your visit, and as someone who plans these trips for clients all the time, I want to share the ones that matter most.
A little prep goes a long way at this park. The layout is different from the original Universal theme parks, the dining flow is different, and there are a handful of small things nobody really tells you until you are standing there and trying to figure it out. Before you head to Orlando, let me walk you through what to know.

What is Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe?
Epic Universe is the newest theme park at Universal Orlando Resort, and it nearly doubled the size of the resort when it opened. The park is built around five distinct lands, each with its own personality, rides, dining, and shopping.
Super Nintendo World drops you into the bright world of Mario and Donkey Kong with interactive games and rides that feel like you stepped into the games themselves.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Ministry of Magic takes the franchise in a new direction with the British Ministry as the centerpiece and one of the most jaw-dropping queues I have ever seen in a theme park.
How to Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk brings the animated world to life with family-friendly thrills in a Viking village setting.
Dark Universe is the spooky, atmospheric area of the park dedicated to Universal’s classic monsters.
And Celestial Park sits in the middle as the central hub, with its own attractions, dining, and a gorgeous fountain show at night.
It is a lot. The good news is that with a few smart Epic Universe tips, you can absolutely make it work for your family.

Where is Epic Universe Located?
Epic Universe sits about four miles south of the original Universal Orlando parks, off Universal Boulevard. That puts it close enough to feel connected to the resort, but far enough that you cannot walk over from Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, or Volcano Bay. Plan to take a shuttle, drive, or rideshare.
If you are driving, the parking lot is its own thing. The walk from the parking structure to the park entrance is genuinely long and almost completely unshaded, which is something to keep in mind on a hot day.

10+ Things to Know Before Visiting Universal Orlando Epic Universe
Before you head to the park, there are a few key pieces of information that can make or break your experience. These eight must-know Epic Universe tips will help you plan, save time, and enjoy all that this park has to offer.
Epic Universe Is Its Own World
The first thing you will notice is that Epic Universe is not connected to CityWalk the way Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure are. There is no walkway, no boat, no quick stroll between parks. It really does feel like a separate experience from the rest of the resort, which is part of what makes it special.
Universal built three new hotels right next to Epic Universe to make staying close easier. Helios Grand has a private entrance directly into the park, which is the dreamiest perk of any hotel I can think of. Stella Nova has a dedicated walking path. Terra Luna is right there too. Shuttles run between all of the on-site hotels and the park.
If you are visiting Epic Universe and one of the original Universal parks in the same trip, just plan to build a little extra travel time into your day. It is not difficult at all, but it is not the kind of resort where you can wander between parks on a whim either.
Take Advantage of Early Park Admission
This is one of the most important Epic Universe tips for anyone staying at a Universal hotel. Early Park Admission lets on-site hotel guests enter the park up to one hour before official opening, and it is hands down one of the best ways to get on the most popular rides without a long wait.
A few things to know. The list of rides included in Early Park Admission has shifted around since the park opened, so always check the Universal app the morning of your visit to see what is open early that day. Everyone in your party needs a hotel room key with them at the gate, since they verify on the way in.
If you are not staying on-site, you can still have a great morning by arriving at the gate 45 to 60 minutes before official opening. Universal usually lets guests into Celestial Park before the rides officially open, so you can scope out the area, get coffee, and be ready to move when the lands open.

Transportation to Epic Universe
Getting to and from the park takes a little planning. Shuttles run from the original Universal hotels and CityWalk to Epic Universe regularly, and the ride is usually about 20 minutes depending on traffic. Rideshare drop-off zones are easy to use too. If you are staying at one of the closer Epic Universe hotels, the shuttle ride or walk is a lot shorter, which is one of the reasons I tend to recommend those resorts to clients heading to the new park.
Whatever option you pick, build in a buffer. Mornings are busy, lines for shuttles can stack up, and you do not want to feel rushed walking up to the gate.
The Universal App is Essential
Download the Universal Orlando app before you go and make sure you are logged in with an account, because so much of your day flows through it. You will use it for mobile food orders, wait times, tracking your Power-Up Band progress in Super Nintendo World, and more.
I also recommend checking the app first thing in the morning to see which rides are running, what wait times look like, and what is included in Early Park Admission that day. It changes more often than you would think.
Facial Recognition is Used in New Ways
You still need a regular ticket to enter the park, but Epic Universe is using facial recognition in a few clever ways once you are inside. The biggest one is the ride lockers. Just like at the other Universal parks, the bigger thrill rides require you to stash your bag in a locker before you get in line. Instead of using your park ticket or a code, you scan your face to open and close the locker.
Honestly, this is a smart upgrade. There is one less thing to lose, and the lockers feel faster and more intuitive to use.

Mobile Ordering Runs the Dining Experience
Quite a bit of the dining at Epic Universe uses mobile order, and that is one of the biggest differences between this park and the rest of Universal Orlando. Most counter service restaurants use the app for everything. You scan a QR code at your table or in the app, place your order, and either pick it up at a window or have it brought to you.
A few exceptions exist. Atlantic and Blue Dragon are full-service sit-down restaurants where you can order with a server. But for the majority of quick-service spots, mobile ordering is the best move. It is faster than standing in line, and during busy times it can save you a big chunk of your day.
If you have a “must-eat” restaurant on your list, especially Atlantic or Blue Dragon, make a reservation ahead of time. They book up fast during peak times.
Each Land Feels Like Its Own Experience
The theming at Epic Universe is on another level. Walking from one land to the next feels like stepping into a completely different world, and the transitions between them are some of the most immersive I have seen anywhere. One minute you are in a Viking village, the next you are dodging Koopas, and a few steps later you are walking through the gates of the British Ministry of Magic.
It is the kind of detail that makes kids’ jaws drop, and adults too if we are being honest. Take time to look up, look around, and notice the little touches. The queues, the architecture, the music, the cast member costumes. Every land is built to fully transport you, and you will miss half of it if you only focus on the rides

Express Pass Works a Little Differently Here
If you are thinking about adding Express Pass to skip lines at Epic Universe, there are a few specifics to know before you book.
Many of the most popular rides at Epic Universe are currently included with the Express Pass, but this is subject to change.
Second, only single-use Express Pass is available at Epic Universe right now, not Unlimited Express. That means you can use Express once per ride, not over and over. And if you are staying at one of Universal’s Signature hotels and counting on the included Unlimited Express perk, that perk does not extend to Epic Universe. You will need to purchase Express separately if you want to use it here.
So is it worth it? It depends on how busy your day is, what you want to ride, and how comfortable you are waiting in standby for the rides not included. For families, it can absolutely be worth the upgrade for the rides it covers. Just go in with realistic expectations.

The Interactive Experiences Are Worth Planning For
Epic Universe is built for hands-on play, and the interactive elements are some of my favorite things about the park.
In the Wizarding World, you will use interactive wands to cast spells at golden medallions and shop windows around the Ministry of Magic, just like you can in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.
In Super Nintendo World, Power-Up Bands take it to a whole new level. The wristbands link to your Universal app, let you collect digital coins by punching the question blocks, track your scores on Mario Kart leaderboards, and unlock interactive challenges throughout the land. You will also need a Power-Up Band to access the Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown finale, which is genuinely so fun.
How to Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk has playful tucked-away touches, hidden details, and interactive nooks throughout the village. None of these extras are required to have a great day, but if your family loves to engage with what they are seeing, they add a layer of magic that is hard to replicate.

The Park Gets Hot and There Is Limited Shade
Florida heat is no joke, and Epic Universe has noticeably less shade than the original Universal parks. Several queues are partially exposed, the walkways between lands have stretches of full sun, and the walk from the parking structure can be brutal in the middle of the day.
Plan for the heat with smart packing. A good hat, reliable sunscreen, and polarized sunglasses are non-negotiable. Bring a refillable water bottle and toss in a few hydration packets to keep your electrolytes up. Cooling towels and hand-held fans are lifesavers in long lines, and if you really want to game-change your park day, a UV umbrella gives you portable shade you can take with you.
A few good cool-down spots inside the park: the Battle at the Ministry queue is mostly air-conditioned and one of the most stunning interior spaces in the park. Toadstool Café is another easy reset spot. The indoor portions of Dark Universe restaurants are blissfully cold too.

What to Know If You’re Visiting With Little Kids
Epic Universe is exciting for families with kids, but there is something I want to be honest about. This park has fewer options for toddlers and very young kids than other Universal parks. There are limited rides without height requirements, and most of the bigger experiences have minimum heights that rule out smaller children.
That said, there is still plenty of fun to be had with a little one in tow. The Isle of Berk has a large play area that little kids absolutely love. Super Nintendo World has interactive elements that toddlers can engage with even if they cannot ride everything. The theming alone is enough to wow younger kids if you are not pushing for a ride-heavy day.
A few practical Epic Universe tips for visiting with kids: check height requirements before you go so nobody is heartbroken at the gate, pack snacks and comfort items for inevitable cranky moments, and use Universal’s rider switch program so the adults in your group can take turns on the rides little ones cannot ride. The rider switch system is a game-changer and one of the most underused tools at the parks.

What to Pack for a Day at Epic Universe
A smart park bag makes the whole day easier. Here are the items I recommend packing for Epic Universe:
- A small backpack or crossbody to carry essentials without weighing you down
- A refillable water bottle for staying hydrated all day
- A portable charger or power bank since the Universal app will absolutely drain your phone
- Ponchos or a compact umbrella for surprise Florida rain
- A cooling towel or personal fan for hot afternoons in line
- Travel-sized sunscreen for reapplication throughout the day
- Hand sanitizer and lip balm
- Light snacks or granola bars for quick energy
- Hydration packets to mix into your water
- Power-Up Bands or interactive wands, if your family plans to use them
Layer it into a bag that is comfortable to carry all day, and you are set.
