One of my favorite Halloween movies is Hocus Pocus (Halloweentown is a close second!) so I put together some fun ideas for a themed movie night at home.
Update: Hocus Pocus 2 was released on Disney+ on September 30, 2022. Make it a double feature!
Set the Scene for Your Hocus Pocus Spooky Movie Night
Before you dive into the world of the Sanderson sisters, it’s essential to create a bewitching atmosphere in your home. Here’s how:
Decorate: Transform your living room into a haunted hideaway with Halloween-themed decorations. Think pumpkins, cobwebs, black cats, and witches’ hats. Don’t forget the iconic black flame candle – there’s a DIY below!
Lighting: Dim the lights or opt for warm, cozy lighting to set the mood. You can even use flickering LED candles to add an eerie glow.
Soundtrack: Set the stage with a spooky soundtrack. You can find Halloween playlists on your favorite music streaming service, or even create your own with eerie tunes and sound effects.
DIY Hocus Pocus Black Flame Candle
A fun DIY project was to create “The Black Flame Candle” to add to our Halloween decorations. I picked up this black glass candle at the Dollar Tree and got out a sponge brush and Mod Podge to put this DIY together.

Hocus Pocus Spellbook Brownies

I am obsessed with these Spellbook Brownies! They turned out so cute and were SO easy to make. I baked a box mix of fudge brownies and decorated them with candy eyes and icing to resemble the Sanderson Sisters’ spellbook in the movie.

Dress Like the Sanderson Sisters
Make the night extra special by dressing up as your favorite characters from the movie. Whether you’re channeling Max, Dani, Binx the cat, or the Sanderson sisters themselves, costumes add a layer of fun to your Hocus Pocus movie night. Don’t forget to capture the memories with some themed photos!
Watch Hocus Pocus
Now that you’re all set, it’s time to start the movie. Ensure you have a cozy seating arrangement with plenty of blankets and pillows. As you watch, be sure to sing along with “I Put a Spell on You” and enjoy the comedic magic of the Sanderson sisters. You can stream Hocus Pocus on Disney+ or catch it on one of the many nights it airs on Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween.

Hosting a Hocus Pocus spooky movie night at home is a delightful way to embrace the Halloween season. Whether you’re sharing it with friends or enjoying a quiet evening by yourself, the enchanting world of the Sanderson sisters will cast a spell on you. So, gather your friends, brew some witch’s potions, and let the spooky fun begin. Just remember to keep an eye on the black flame candle and avoid any sinister curses. Happy haunting!
