Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort is the retro-themed hotel that manages to feel like its own vacation destination and a smart budget choice at the same time. Inspired by the classic beach resorts of the 1950s and 60s, Cabana Bay Beach Resort gives you bright, nostalgic theming, two huge pool courtyards, a lazy river, and a location that puts every Universal Orlando park within easy reach.
It is not just a pretty lobby with vintage cars out front, though those are a fun touch. This is a resort built for families who want the on-site perks without the on-site luxury price tag, and it delivers on that better than almost anything else at Universal.
If you are weighing where to stay for your Universal trip and want somewhere that feels fun, affordable, and genuinely convenient, this is the resort for you.

The Retro Charm and Real Value of Cabana Bay
The moment you walk into Cabana Bay Beach Resort, the theming does its job. Classic cars line the entrance, the lobby is all mid-century color and pattern, and there is a real sense that someone thought carefully about making this place feel like a road trip through a more glamorous era of American travel.
Cabana Bay is a Prime Value resort, which is Universal’s budget tier. Cabana Bay is a Prime Value resort, which is Universal’s budget tier. In real terms, you get the important on-site benefits, comfortable rooms, and a genuinely fun property, all for a price that stays friendly to your budget once you factor in everything included, including no resort fee.
There is no resort fee, which is worth noting because plenty of off-site hotels quietly tack one on. With over 2,200 rooms across the property, it is large, but it is designed so you always have somewhere to spread out, whether that is a pool deck, the lobby lounge, or the bowling alley.
Standard Cabana Bay Beach Resort rooms currently start around $140 to $150 a night depending on the season and any discounts running, which is remarkable value for an on-site Universal hotel with these amenities.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort Location and Park Access
One of the biggest reasons to stay on property at Universal Orlando is location, and Cabana Bay puts you close to everything without the premium address.
The resort sits on Universal’s main campus, with a dedicated walking path straight over to Universal’s Volcano Bay water park. No traffic, no parking hassle, just grab your swimsuit and go. If a big chunk of your trip revolves around Volcano Bay, that walkable access alone makes Cabana Bay a strong pick.
For Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and CityWalk, you have two options. You can hop the complimentary shuttle bus, which picks up near the lobby by Bayliner Diner and gets you to the CityWalk hub in under ten minutes, with buses running frequently. Or you can walk the landscaped garden path, which takes a similar amount of time and is genuinely pleasant. Either way, getting to the two original parks is easy.
Cabana Bay is located across the street from Universal’s Aventura Resort, another value-tier option.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort Rooms
There is a nice range of room options at Cabana Bay Beach Resort, and they all lean into that retro theme with vibrant colors and fun, funky furnishings. You can choose rooms in the main buildings with exterior entrances, or rooms in the tower with interior hallway entrances and views overlooking Volcano Bay. If you are a light sleeper or traveling with little ones, the interior tower rooms tend to feel a bit more insulated from outside noise.
Standard rooms sleep up to four and work well for solo travelers, couples, or small families who do not need a lot of extra space. They are comfortable and well themed, with the mini-fridge you will want for keeping water and snacks cold.

The family suites are where Cabana Bay really earns its reputation with families. These sleep up to six and include a separate living area, so everyone gets room to breathe after a long park day. The suites also come with a small kitchenette featuring a mini-fridge, microwave, and sink, which makes a bigger difference than you might expect. Being able to prep a quick breakfast, store leftovers, or reheat a snack saves both money and the meltdown that happens when someone gets hungry at the wrong moment. For a budget resort, having a true suite option with a kitchenette is a genuine standout.

No matter which room you choose, you get access to all the resort amenities, from the lazy river to the retro dining spots to the complimentary shuttle service.

Dining Options at Cabana Bay Beach Resort
Cabana Bay has your dining covered from your first morning coffee to a late-night snack run, and the variety is better than you would expect from a value resort. Whether you are after a full meal, a poolside drink, or a quick grab-and-go, there is something that fits.
The Bayliner Diner is the main food court, serving everything from burgers to pizza to salads, with a handy Grab and Go section for snacks and drinks you can stash in your room or take to the pool.
Galaxy Bowl Restaurant offers casual table service with made-to-order sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, and wings, and yes, it is inside the bowling alley. For something sweeter, Shakes Malt Shoppe has smoothies, shakes, and treats that hit at any time of day.
Poolside, the Atomic Tonic bar and grill on the Cabana Courtyard deck serves sandwiches, wraps, salads, and a rotating list of drinks, while The Hideaway Bar & Grill near the lazy river handles snacks, frozen drinks, cocktails, beer, and wine.
Back in the lobby, the Swizzle Lounge pours made-to-order cocktails in a retro setting, and there is a full Starbucks for your morning boost or afternoon pick-me-up. Between all of these, you genuinely do not need to leave the property to eat well.

Cabana Bay Resort Amenities and Pools
The pools are the heart of Cabana Bay, and there are two distinct pool courtyards, which is part of why the resort never feels crowded even when it is busy. The Cabana Courtyard is the larger of the two, anchored by a dive-tower-themed waterslide and lined with rentable cabanas and fire pits. The Lazy River Courtyard is home to Universal’s first lazy river, where you can float away an entire afternoon. Both feature zero-entry pools and sandy beach areas, and the resort regularly runs poolside activities and dive-in movies, so there is always something happening.

Beyond the pools, Galaxy Bowl is the resort’s own ten-lane bowling alley on the second floor of the lobby building. It comes with that table-service restaurant and full bar, so you can eat and drink without leaving your lane. Bowling requires reservations and an additional fee, but it is a fun rainy-day or rest-day option, especially with kids.
For more downtime, Game-O-Rama offers arcade classics and modern video games, also on the second floor of the lobby building. The Jack LaLanne Physical Fitness Studio lets you squeeze in a workout surrounded by memorabilia of the fitness pioneer, and it is complimentary for hotel guests.
Express Passes are not included with a Cabana Bay stay the way they are at select top-tier hotels. If shorter wait times matter to you, it is worth understanding how the Universal Express Pass works so you can decide whether to purchase it separately for your park days.
Transportation and Parking at Cabana Bay Beach Resort
As a Prime Value resort, Cabana Bay includes complimentary shuttle bus transportation to the Universal CityWalk hub, which connects you to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Volcano Bay is accessible by the dedicated walking path, and Epic Universe has its own dedicated shuttle as covered above. Between the buses and the walking paths, you can get anywhere on the Universal campus without a car.
If you are driving in, there is a self-parking fee paid at checkout, charged per night, per vehicle. Parking rates at Universal change periodically, so confirm the current overnight self-parking cost when you book or at check-in rather than relying on an old number. The good news is there is no separate resort fee, so parking is the main add-on cost to budget for.

How Cabana Bay Compares to Other Value Resorts
If you are trying to decide between Cabana Bay and Universal’s other budget options, here is how I think about it. The Endless Summer resorts (Surfside and Dockside) are Universal’s lowest-priced tier and are a great fit if the lowest rate is your top priority, but they are a bus ride from everything and have fewer on-site amenities. Aventura, right across the street, is sleek and modern with a rooftop bar, but it leans more adult-modern than family-playful.
The newer Terra Luna and Stella Nova resorts are the value hotels within walking distance of Epic Universe, so if Epic is the entire focus of your trip, those are worth pricing out.
But Cabana Bay remains the best all-around value for most families. You get more amenities, the walkable Volcano Bay access, the standout family suites, and a genuinely fun property, usually for not much more than the barest-bones options. For a first Universal trip or a family that wants a little bit of everything, Cabana Bay is hard to beat.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Stay at Cabana Bay
A few things I always tell people before they check in at Cabana Bay. First, take full advantage of Early Park Admission. That extra hour before regular opening is one of the biggest reasons to stay on-site, and it now applies to Epic Universe too, so use it to knock out the headliner attractions before crowds build.
Pack your swimsuit and sunscreen, because between two pools and a lazy river, you will want pool time even if your trip is park-focused. If you plan to float the lazy river, either bring your own float or be ready to buy one at the shop, since they are not provided for free.
Build in at least one afternoon or evening to actually enjoy the resort rather than rushing straight to the parks and back. Between the bowling, the arcade, the pools, and the dining, Cabana Bay is a destination in its own right.
And keep an eye out in the lobby area, because you never know when a character might pop up. Meeting a Minion when you least expect it is exactly the kind of small, magical moment that makes a trip memorable.
