About Gypsy Gold Horse Farm
Gypsy Gold Horse Farm was established by Dennis Thompson, who, along with his late wife Cindy, introduced the Gypsy Vanner horse to North America. The story of these horses is intertwined with the rich cultural history of the Romani people in the British Isles. Originally bred to pull their caravans, Gypsy Vanners were selected for their strength, endurance, and friendly disposition, making them ideal companions and working animals for the Romani.
The Thompsons’ journey to bring the Gypsy Vanner horse to North America began in the mid-1990s when they first encountered the breed during a trip to England. Struck by their unique appearance—marked by flowing manes, feathered legs, and a sturdy, compact build—the Thompsons recognized the horses’ potential to capture the hearts of horse enthusiasts back home.
Gypsy Gold Horse Farm stands as a testament to the Thompsons’ vision and hard work. The farm not only serves as a breeding and training center but also as a place where visitors can learn about the history and characteristics of the Gypsy Vanner horse. Through tours, events, and educational programs, the farm continues to spread awareness and appreciation for this unique and charming breed.
