Hocus Pocus Spooky Movie Night

It’s officially spooky season! Are you ready for a Hocus Pocus spooky movie night?!

One of my favorite Halloween movies is Hocus Pocus (Halloweentown is a close second!) so I put together some fun ideas for a themed movie night home.

First on the list was to create “The Black Flame Candle” to add to our Halloween decorations. I picked up this black glass candle at the Dollar Tree and got out a sponge brush and Mod Podge to put this DIY together.

If you want to download the label I created to print out yourself and make your own candle, just click here to grab it!

Next up, a fun cocktail based off of a seasonal drink offered at Disney’s Pop Century Resort; Pop’s Potion. Beware this is sweet but really delicious!

Sanderson Sisters’ Brew Recipe

Add the following to a shaker cup with ice:

  • 2 ounces Pineapple Juice
  • 2 ounces Orange Juice
  • 1 ounce of Coconut Rum
  • 1 ounce of Melon Liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce Blue Curacao Liqueur
  • Splash of Sweetened Lime Juice

Pour into a glass, top with Sprite or 7 Up, and stir. I added a glow cube and some Smart Sweets gummy worms.

Spellbook Brownies - Hocus Pocus Spooky Movie Night

I am obsessed with these Spellbook Brownies! They turned out so cute and were SO easy to make. I baked a box mix of fudge brownies and decorated them with candy eyes and icing to resemble the Sanderson Sisters’ spellbook in the movie.

You can stream Hocus Pocus on Disney+ or catch it on one of the many nights it airs on Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween.

Let me know if you have your own spooky movie night at home or make the Black Flame Candle DIY, I would love to see!

Recipe: How to Bake Quest Cookie Bites

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Quest Nutrition products…especially their protein bars!  Sometimes, it’s fun to change things up (like microwaving the bars for about 20 seconds…). Did you know you could bake Quest Nutrition cookie bites with one of their protein bars? Healthier sweet treats are definitely a win in my book!
1. Take one Quest protein bar. I used chocolate chip cookie dough, but you could use any flavor you like! Cookies and cream might be my second favorite to use for this.

2. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

3. Cut into 8 pieces.

4. Bake at 325 degrees for 5 minutes.

5.Pull out and use a spatula to press down each piece to shape and flatten.

6. Bake for 3 more minutes.

7. Pull out of the oven and allow to cool.

8. Enjoy your cookie bites!

The link to my TikTok video making these is here.

The taste and texture is the best when these are fresh! Let me know if you bake these Quest Nutrition cookie bites.

Shakeology Mug Cake Recipe

This is a super simple and quick recipe to get a little dessert in if you’re craving something sweet…without the guilt!

Ingredients:

1 serving Chocolate Shakeology

Dash of salt
3 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk
Optional add-ins: powdered peanut butter, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, flavored Stevia, pure flavor extracts, etc. depending on your preferences

Directions:

In a microwave-safe mug, mix the dry ingredients.  Then mix in the almond milk and make sure all of the dry ingredients are covered (it will be like a batter).  Microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.

Enjoy!!

Egg Cup Recipe

These cute little egg cups are a great go-to for a quick breakfast that’s easy to grab on your way out of the house.  Plus, they are super easy to make!

Ingredients
12 eggs
8 oz. cooked turkey bacon, chopped up (or any cooked meat like ham or sausage)
1 1/2 tbsp Mrs Dash Onion and Herb Seasoning (I love this one because it’s salt-free and tastes great!)
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp pepper
2 oz. green chilies
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or whatever kind you like)
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 12 cup muffin pan.
Cook whatever meat you choose to use and cut into small pieces.
In a bowl, beat eggs.
Add onion seasoning, pepper, garlic, and chilies.  Stir in meat and cheese.
Spoon the mixture into the muffin cups almost to the top.
Bake 20-25 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Makes 12 servings
These are great right away but can also be stored in the refrigerator and popped in the microwave and still taste just as good!
Easy, convenient, and healthy!

Healthy Turkey Chili Recipe

One of my favorite meals when the weather gets cooler is a nice, warm bowl of chili. Have a cozy night in and make this turkey chili recipe for dinner! It doesn’t take very long and it’s a healthier version that the whole family will love.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS RECIPE

This recipe uses healthier substitutions but it is still full of flavor. Make this turkey chili recipe in about 40 minutes and the whole family is sure to love it.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb. lean ground turkey (the higher the percentage the better, mine was 99% lean)
  • 2 cloves garlic (I used already diced)
  • 1/2 diced onion (I bought a package of already diced onion and used 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes or tomato sauce if you have people who don’t like tomato chunks (I used no sugar added)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste (I used no sugar added)
  • 1 can no salt added whole kernel corn
  • 1 can reduced sodium black beans
  • 1 can reduced sodium pinto beans (or other bean based on your preferences)
  • 1 package of taco or chili seasoning (I used low sodium)
  • sliced jalapenos
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • pink Himalayan salt or sea salt
  • ground pepper
  • shredded cheese
  • plain greek yogurt

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Brown the turkey with just a splash of EVOO in a pan.  Season with just a bit of pink Himalayan salt or sea salt and some ground pepper.  I love my meat chopper to break up the meat while it’s cooking.
  2. As the turkey begins to brown, add in the onion. After a couple of minutes, add in the garlic.
  3. Drain the meat once it’s brown.  If you used lean turkey, you shouldn’t have much to drain!
  4. Add the meat to a larger pot. Add in the can of corn (drained) and the beans (I drained most of the liquid, but left about 1/4).
  5. Stir in the tomatoes and tomato sauce along with the chili seasoning.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce to low heat and add the lid.
  8. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Serve with a spoonful of plain Greek yogurt (a substitute for sour cream) and sprinkle a small amount of shredded cheese on top. Add any other topping you like, such as sliced jalapenos, chopped green onions, etc.

VARIATIONS

If you’re a fan of spicy chili, you can add in some of sliced jalapenos in the cooking process for some extra heat.

You can certainly use traditional beef in this recipe. You could include mushrooms or peppers or change the beans you use. Make it your own; you know what you and your family love!

This chili recipe also pairs well with brown rice for leftovers.

STORAGE

Store any leftovers in a glass container with a lid in your refrigerator. Stays good for 2-3 days.
