Where is Amelia Island?
Amelia Island is part of the Sea Islands chain, located in the northeastern corner of Florida, near the Georgia border. It’s about 30 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. It is best known for its 13 miles of beautiful beaches, preserved historic landmarks, and welcoming small-town atmosphere.
The island’s main town, Fernandina Beach, is full of personality with its brick-lined streets, Victorian architecture, and vibrant food scene. Amelia Island feels quieter and more refined than many Florida beach destinations, which is exactly why couples love it. It offers that coastal escape feeling without the chaos.

How to Get to Amelia Island
Traveling to Amelia Island is easy and straightforward, whether you’re flying in or driving from elsewhere in Florida or the Southeast.
Amelia Island is conveniently located near Jacksonville, Florida. The closest major airport is Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), situated about 30 miles southwest of the island. From the airport, renting a car is the most convenient option and allows you to explore Amelia Island at your own pace. The drive itself is part of the experience, with scenic views of marshlands and waterways as you approach the island.
If you’re driving, Amelia Island is easily accessible via I-95. From I-95, take Exit 373 for Florida A1A/State Road 200 and follow the signs to Amelia Island.
Visitors arriving by boat can dock at Fernandina Harbor Marina, which is conveniently located near downtown Fernandina Beach and within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
