Paradise Guest Ranch

What is a Dude Ranch?

Let’s start by answering a common question: what is a dude ranch? Simply put, a dude ranch is a vacation destination that offers guests the opportunity to experience life on a ranch. Dude ranch vacations are perfect for anyone looking to combine adventure with relaxation. You’ll enjoy activities like horseback riding, fly fishing, hiking, and more. Whether you want to spend your day on horseback or relax by a campfire, dude ranches provide the ideal escape from the daily grind.

Among the many dude ranches in Wyoming, Paradise Guest Ranch stands out for its breathtaking location, welcoming atmosphere, and wide variety of activities for all ages. If you’ve been wondering what it’s like to spend a week living the cowboy lifestyle, a dude ranch vacation at Paradise Guest Ranch will give you an authentic taste.

Paradise Guest Ranch

Where is Paradise Guest Ranch?

Paradise Guest Ranch is located in the beautiful Bighorn Mountains in north-central Wyoming, just outside of Buffalo. This remote spot offers an ideal setting for a Wyoming ranch vacation, with stunning mountain views, clear skies, and endless opportunities for outdoor activities.

Its location within the Bighorn National Forest ensures that you’re surrounded by pristine wilderness—meaning you’ll have some of the best horseback riding in Wyoming right at your doorstep. It’s a nature lover’s dream, but also a place where you can completely unplug and recharge. Paradise Guest Ranch is the perfect blend of a peaceful retreat and an adventure-filled getaway.

Getting to Paradise Guest Ranch

If you’re coming from out of state, you’ll likely be flying into one of Wyoming’s nearby airports. Sheridan County Airport is about a 1.5-hour drive away, while Casper/Natrona County International Airport is a 2.5-hour drive. Most guests rent a car for the final leg of the journey. If you’re up for a scenic road trip, the ranch is about 6 hours from Denver, Colorado, or 4.5 hours from Billings, Montana. Either way, the drive is gorgeous and will have you feeling like you’re already on vacation by the time you arrive. Even though it’s a bit off the beaten path, getting to Paradise Guest Ranch is straightforward and stress-free.

Personally, we’ve flown into Rapid City, Billings, and Denver on different trips. Each of these airports offers its own unique travel experience, so you can choose based on your flight preferences and how much road-tripping you want to do.

Buffalo, Wyoming: Gateway to the Bighorn Mountains

Buffalo, Wyoming, is the small town you’ll pass through en route to Paradise Guest Ranch. While the town itself is small, it packs in plenty of charm. Buffalo is steeped in history, as it was once an important stop on the Bozeman Trail, which was used by pioneers heading to the Montana gold fields.

If you have a little extra time before heading up to Paradise Guest Ranch, Buffalo offers some fun diversions. Stroll through the historic downtown, check out the Occidental Hotel f which was a former favorite of Western legends like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or visit the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum to learn more about the area’s history.

Other nearby places you may want to visit: Sheridan, Cody, and Yellowstone National Park.

The ranch hosts yoga sessions in the outdoor pavilion, where you can stretch out your muscles while breathing in the crisp mountain air. Tips for Your Visit to Paradise Guest Ranch

To make the most of your Wyoming dude ranch experience at Paradise Guest Ranch, keep these tips in mind:

  • Book Early: Dude ranches, especially popular ones like Paradise Guest Ranch, tend to fill up quickly. It’s best to book your stay 6-12 months in advance to ensure you get the dates and cabin size you want.
  • Be Prepared for Altitude: At 7,500+ feet above sea level, the ranch is located at a high altitude. It’s common to feel short of breath or more tired than usual during your first day or two. Stay hydrated and take it easy while your body adjusts.
  • Bring Layers: Even in the summer months, temperatures in the Bighorn Mountains can fluctuate. Be sure to pack layers—think light jackets, flannels, and rain gear—so you’re ready for both warm afternoons and cool evenings.
  • Try New Things: Even if you’re not an experienced rider, don’t be afraid to give horseback riding a try. The wranglers are expert teachers and will ensure you feel safe and comfortable. Never gone fly fishing? The fishing guides will help you get the perfect cast!
  • Make New Friends: Get to know the staff and other guests. Half the fun of a dude ranch vacation is the sense of community you’ll experience. We have made so many friends over the years!
  • Unplug and Enjoy: One of the charms of Paradise Guest Ranch is its remote location, which means limited cell service and Wi-Fi. Take this opportunity to unplug, enjoy the beauty of nature, and reconnect with the people around you.
  • Groceries: If there are certain items you would like to have in your cabin during your week at the ranch, stop by one of the grocery stores in Buffalo before heading to Paradise to stock up on any essentials.
